Survival analysis

An introduction to concepts, methods & software

What you will be able to do

  • Describe risk-time, timescales and censoring, and say what each implies for an analysis
  • Estimate and compare survival with Kaplan-Meier, and read a hazard and a cumulative hazard
  • Fit parametric survival models and Cox regression, and choose between them
  • Test the proportional-hazards assumption and model non-proportional hazards

How the practicals work

Each practical generates a dataset that is yours alone. The seed is printed on the page, so the same seed always rebuilds the same data — yours, or ours when we mark it. You run the analysis in R or in Stata and enter what you find, and we tell you which value is wrong rather than only that something is.
